Role in the project

IBV will manage the project as well act as dissemination manager.

From a technical point of view, IBV will lead the Human Component Module, leading the developing of the Emotional Module.

Specifically IBV will:

  • Define the Empathy Module Concept, covering from the inputs from user (biometrics, behaviour) and context to the outputs with the emotional and cognitive state of the users, and its relation with trip services such as ride comfort, ambient control and HMI feedback.

  • Get in deep on the cross-relations between cognitive situations and emotional states, and its impact on the human decision making processes.

  • Develop the tools to robustly estimate passenger’s state in real time.

  • Integrate the different blocks and components of the Empathy Module.

  • Incorporate the improvements after each iteration of user validation.

Partner description

The Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) is a technological centre that studies the human behaviour and its interaction with products, environments and services. Founded in 1976, the Institute is currently coordinated under the agreement of the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

With the aim to improve competitiveness among the business sector, the IBV promotes people’s well-being through the combination of knowledge in areas such as biomechanics, ergonomics, cognitive and emotional engineering, and its application to diverse sectors.

The activity of the IBV in the field of automotive and transport means is based on scientific and technological knowledge on the analysis of the behaviour of the human body, the study of the interface between the subject and their environment, as well as in the technologies and techniques of study in biomechanics, activities that are part of the R & D lines of the centre. In this field, IBV works in the following areas:

  • User monitoring (ocular tracking, drowsiness sensorization, emotional characterization).

  • Ergonomics of the driver's position.

  • Human machine interfaces (HMI).

  • Comfort of the passenger.

  • Design of the interior components.

  • Cognitive ergonomics

  • Workplace Ergonomics.

  • Traffic Accident Evaluation Service.

IBV's offer in this field has been structured focusing specifically on the needs of four different sectors: Automobile (OEMs and components manufacturers TIER1, TIER2); Mass Transport Means (mainly Railway Sector); Special vehicles (ambulances, police vehicles, adapted to PMRs); Mobility (Operators of passenger and merchandise transport service).
